The war chapters help us to see how disciples of Christ live in time of trial and war.
I did not know until now that all the wars in the end of Alma are led/caused by Nephite dissenters. How scary that is. How sad. You almost have to wonder what the Lamanites would be like if the Nephite dissenters left them alone. People who would listen and become like the people of Ammon?
The war chapters are a type for the spiritual warfare which rages around us constantly. They always say that hindsight is 20/20 but I can tell you that fore knowledge can be heartbreaking. They are only 50 years from the coming of the Savior and they are becoming so weak and being driven by every wind of change.
It breaks my heart to know what is coming for them. I suppose it would break my heart to know what is coming for some of us if we do not remain steadfast, true, and faithful.
This is also why we need the Moroni's,
the Henry B Eyring's
and Jefferey R Holland's
and Dieter Uchdorft's
and Thomas S Monson's
--to come and rally us, and stir us up to the remembrance of our God and cause our hearts to want to fight for right and truth.
We become so lackadaisical, " all is well in Zion" when we are not reminded.
It makes me love these men even more that I can compare them to Moroni, and Helaman, and that they are doing their duty to be watchmen on the tower.
